Early Modern Faithful Replicas

Art during the Mohamed Aly dynasty (1805–1952) is defined by a blend of traditional Islamic heritage and European royal styles. To modernize Egypt, the rulers adopted Western "Khedival Baroque" architecture, building palaces and mosques with grand marble facades, symmetrical layouts, and gilded Rococo decorations. This unique hybrid style is best seen in the alabaster Mosque of Muhammad Ali and the lavish Abdeen Palace. In the fine arts, the era introduced European-style oil paintings and royal portraits to Egypt, moving away from traditional Islamic geometric art. Ultimately, this period completely transformed Egyptian design and urban architecture into a mix of Eastern and Western cultures.
