King Akhenaten instituted many changes during his reign, most prominently in religion. These proved unpopular, and there was a return to normalcy soon after his death. Akhenaten’s reign and the period right after it are known as the Amarna Period. Akhenaten may have been Tutankhamun’s father, and he had at least six daughters. This probably depicts one of the youngest of these daughters, dated based on style to soon after Akhenaten’s death. Made during a time of political turmoil, it embodies a sense of calm and family, perhaps betraying nostalgia for more peaceful days.
