One of the most famous artifacts discovered in the tomb of Tutankhamun, Anubis is shown in one of his most ancient forms: As a jackal lying on top of a shrine. Anubis was the god of mummification and the protector of cemeteries and tombs. The shrine is decorated with pairs of alternating djed-pillars—symbols of stability—and protective Isis-knots.
