This beautiful Konouz item is a faithful emulation of a cosmetic vase from the tomb of Tutankhamun fashioned in the form of an ibex, an animal associated with renewal in ancient Egyptian symbolism. The original once held perfumed oils. The left shoulder bears the king’s name within a cartouche crowned with a solar disk and feathers, affirming royal ownership. The original vessel illustrates the creativity of Egyptian artists and the association of cosmetic objects with renewal, and reflects the refined nature of courtly life during the reign of Tutankhamun.
