The Statue of “Kaemked” depicts a funerary priest portrayed in a calm, dignified stance, reflecting his important role in mortuary rituals. The pose of a kneeling man was rare for this period and is an example of the artist’s desire to introduce innovation, resulting in a work of originality and excellent quality. As a servant of the cult of the deceased, Kaemked was responsible for performing offerings and sacred ceremonies to sustain the spirit in the afterlife.
